Word of the Day: The Importance of Godly Friendships

We weren’t created to be alone. Even if you are not married, because maybe God has called you to a life of singleness, God’s creative design is for us to exist in community with others.

They Can Relate

Everyone has a role to play and a purpose to fulfill. As believers, we need our social circles to include godly friends. Why? Fellowship! When we are born again, we are brand new in Christ. A baby. As we grow, we need to surround ourselves with others who can and will share in our growth, and help us tow the line. And since we’re always growing, we’ll always need them! Not to mention, the journey is just better with friends who can relate. Right?

They Can Pray for You

Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am in their midst.” This is where the battles are won! Why wouldn’t you want your friends to invite Jesus into challenging circumstances or praise Him for blessing you? Friends who can and are willing to pray with you and for you is where it’s at!

The Accountability Factor

Having right friendships helps to safeguard us from sin and temptation. Godly friends can and should “call you out,” if you’re making unhealthy decisions, be they physical, emotional, or financial, but especially, spiritual. Their role is to lead you back to Christ. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

Who Are Your Friends?

Who in your social circles can you lean on for godly friendship; and they you? If you’re not sure, ask God to reveal to you who He would have for you to include in your circle and ask Him to cultivate those friendships. Your life will be richer for the asking.
